City bikes in Oslo

One way of getting around Oslo is to use the citybikes. They cost NOK 49 for a 24 hours subscription and NOK 99 for a 72 hours subscription. You need to download an app to your phone. You can register and unlock a bike with a foreign phone number. The only thing you have to do is to manually select your country code.

You are allowed to keep your bike for 45 minutes before placing it back into a station. Extended rental is available for NOK 5 per 15 minutes.

BookCrossing in the Palace Park in Oslo

This summer (2016) even the Norwegian Royal Family do a kind of bookcrossing! Until some time in September you can find book shelves at some of the trees in the Palace Park around the Royal Palace in Oslo. You can take books or leave books or both.

The Royal House of Norway informs about this at their web pages:

“The Jubilee Park
This year we are celebrating the 25th anniversary of the ascension to the throne of Their Majesties the King and Queen, and the Palace Park will be the site of many celebratory activities throughout the summer.  …

The small pavilion in the Queen’s Park has been turned into a small library – mainly with children’s books, and special reading benches with book cabinets inn nearby trees have been put in place for the park’s guests to use.

Excited about this opportunity to get new people aware of bookcrossing, I have been to the park both yesterday and today adding some bookcrossing books to the shelves. Inside the books I also included a little note about our convention. Let’s see if someone is interested:-) I am excited to see if any of the books will get registered by the finders.
